Food Lion began in 1957 in Salisbury, North Carolina under the name of Food Town. It has undergone a variety changes both in management outlook, store décor, and its name, which changed from Food Town to Food Lion in 1982. Today there are over 1,200 stores in 11 states in the south-east and mid-Atlantic regions of America. Food Lion worked hard to cut costs wherever possible, so that they could offer “everyday low prices”.
